Beautifully and completely restored XK150, now at 60,000 miles, with a 3.8L DOHC Engine, Four Speed Transmission + Electric Laycock Overdrive.
Serial/Chassis Number S838478DN.
Here is a fine example of the last of this classic XK series: owned, restored, and occasionally driven over the past twenty years. During this time, its complete drivetrain and suspension were rebuilt or refurbished. The original engine had an unknown problem at about 10,000 miles, and was replaced with a Mark II engine (No. LB9051) from a donor car - a proper 3.8L, 9:1 compression ratio 220 HP engine for this late production XK150 model. More recently, the engine received new pistons, rings, rods, bearings, valves, reboring and surfacing. It was balanced prior to assembly, including the existing flywheel, new clutch and pressure plate. The transmission received new bearings and synchros. The overdrive unit, drive shaft and rear differential were all rebuilt. Its radiator has been re-cored, and the heater core replaced. Brake lines were replaced and calipers and hand brake rebuilt. Shock absorbers and rear leaf springs, ball joints and bushings were replaced with new, as was the fuel tank.
Over the past two summers, the body and interior have been brought up to a high standard. All needed bodywork was done. The door sills, bottoms of the door skins, battery boxes, floor boards have all been replaced with new metal and wood. Door hinges have been refurbished, and sound-deadening materials added. New paintwork was done in the correct Jaguar Carmen Red. The body was taken down to bare metal and painted with PPG polyurethane finishes, with four coats of primer/sealer, and several color coats (2 coats of 100% color + 1 of 25% clear with color + one final coat of 75% clear/color). Improvements were made in many bright trim pieces, and the front and rear Jaguar cloisonne badges were replaced.
The interior received a new carpet set and other surfaces were reconditioned. The hood (convertible top) cover and its inner lining were replaced, and the center seat section/tunnel upholstery was added. The boot (trunk) tire well has been completely refabricated in new metal, and its interior finished with new upholstery. The windscreen and side windows were replaced, as was the windshield washer bottle and bracket. The dash sports new burled English walnut veneer, with all instruments functioning. A set of new Dayton replacement wire wheels and new Vredestein radial tires complete the rolling stock and set off the car nicely. Everything else has been sympathetically preserved. It has just received two new 6 volt batteries (=12v), a fresh oil and filter change, a new air filter, and is ready for Spring driving. Books and records included.
This is a beautiful and solid classic Jag that drives excellently, and that you can enjoy on a road trip, in a rally, or proudly take to a local or regional show.
